Hey, this is Krisna Prem working as a game developer at Pearl Lemon. I’m here to tell you about my experience working in Pear Lemon. Pear Lemon is very unique. So before this, I’ve done a couple of internships and a full time as a game developer, and all the experience in the other companies kind of falls into the same nature. But at Pearlman, it’s very unique. I’ll just go through how I felt during the process of getting hired and then working at the company. So, getting hired, I applied for a game developer role through Internshala. I will start with the application process, it is very unique. It will take you almost one or one and half an hour to fill this application. So while you’re filling in, you should be very sure that you want to be working in this company, wasting that much time sending an application. So that felt very unique. And after that, I had an interview with the head of Game development, Stephen, and then Themi, the operations manager. I’ve had an interview with both of them. I had a great conversation with them, shared some of my experiences, and I have had a great experience. I have done an assessment before the interview as well. It consisted of general technical questions about Unity on game development. After all that was done, I got hired as a game developer and I did a two week test period. So I’ve never done this before at any other company. A two week test period. Basically, they wanted to see how I work with the project and the other team members. So I did a two week test period and I think I did well. And then I got hired as a full time employee. One unique innovative idea I liked very much was this cartoon styled dp we get after getting hired which we use for all the communication we do as a company employee. It felt very different and unique.
So after that, we did a couple of projects. We did a project for a web browser game, which we are building with JavaScript, PHP, HTML and CSS. We did get involved in a little bit of the backend as well. So the project was to optimize the web browser game both on mobile and PC. So it was meant to be on PC and we were optimizing to mobile. So game development, usually I did before in Unity and Unreal Engine, all the other game engines, but here we did a web browsing game, which is completely different from me, completely new for me. I have used different game engines not just for developing games but for many reasons like plugin development etc. And Stephen and the other teammate I have, Manoj, were really great. They helped me throughout the project. So I was very new to JavaScript and web browser games. So they did help me a lot. The experience was very good. They were very supportive and helpful to me.
And after that, after the browser game project, we did a small unity project here and there. So I kind of went into the game, kind of saw how everything works, and gave a review of what should be changed and everything. The game was intended to be PC and I got the project to see what the game is lacking right now. With my experience in game development, I went through the game, a wave type game where enemies would be spawning from an end and the player should spawn their team troops to defend. It was great, the game animations and mechanics were really good. But it did have some negatives like a tutorial of how to play the game, some UI UX issues, some explosions going out of the arena and some main menu and game over screen issues. I felt these were some minor changes needed and I have submitted a clear review of these changes.
And then we did a Roblox project, which is currently going on right now. So the roblox project, it’s also very unique. It’s very different from any other Roblox game I have played before. So it’s basically a counseling or a supportive kind of a game for all the LGBTQ members. It consists of different types of mini games. I was assigned a roller coaster minigame where the player should be able to ride the rollercoaster over the whole city on a rainbow track collecting clouds for bonus points. I was given a set of models to achieve this task.
After making some progress on this, I was able to add game mechanics such as lane switching on the rainbow track to collect clouds for bonus points.
So it was very different. And I’m new to Roblox as well, with the help of Steven, actually. So I did a Roblox course on Udemy, which was given to us by Pearl Lemon. So I did that. I’ve learned a little bit of Lua scripting, and I went into Roblox studio, and it was very challenging. With the support of the HOD of game development and my team I was able to learn very quickly and create great experiences in Roblox Studio. Like, it was new to me. I didn’t know a lot. So it was challenging. And I kind of made some changes, went here and there, and it’s going good right now, the project. And I’ll just tell you what other things that fascinate me or that’s, like, different in this company. So we have a weekly meeting call on Friday that goes on. Like around, like 1 hour, 2 hours maybe that goes on. It’s very different. Like, we do a video call with all our members, all the teams, the whole company there with our CEO Deepak as well. And at the start of the meeting, we usually play around, like, talk about stuff we’ve done at the weekend or something, any personal stuff here and there. And then we talk about the company, like, what goes around in all the teams, what is happening with all the other departments. So we do that. That’s completely unique. Very different. So my team is a game development team. There’s no need for me to know about the whole company. I didn’t do this before in any other company. But here we know what’s happening around all the departments, what is happening with the company, any new departments that we are opening. We know everything because of this call. And it’s like, very. A very different experience. It was very good, actually. It felt different.
That’s it, I guess. Yeah. So the whole experience from hiring to what I’m doing right now, it’s been, like, around joining in July. It’s been almost three, four months. So it was very different.
It was very unique. Everything is new to me. It felt great working here. Everyone is so supportive, and our company itself is very unique. We do everything, actually. Because of the weekly call we have I know this stuff. We are into law, I guess. Yeah, that’s new. And then cleaning. We have Pearl Lemon cleaning. That is also new. So, yeah, the company goes in around all the departments. I mean, we are into almost everything, but the company is mainly focused on SEO optimization. And a company having a game development team is very rare. So I am very fortunate to be in this company, and I’ve loved the whole experience working here through the hiring process. Still now, everyone is so supportive. Thank you. Thank you guys for everything. And this is how my experience at Pearl Lemon was.
