My Journey as a Web Designer at Pearl Lemon

Working as a Web Designer at Pearl Lemon has been an amazing experience and a huge learning opportunity for me. Over the past month, I’ve worked on real client projects, learned to use new tools, and improved my overall understanding of how design and development come together to build a great website.

This internship didn’t just teach me technical skills — it also helped me become more confident, organized, and better at managing projects and deadlines. Most importantly, it showed me how creativity and teamwork can make a real impact in professional design work.

Learning and Creative Growth

When I joined Pearl Lemon, I wanted to improve my web design skills and understand how professional designers think and work. During my time here, I learned a lot about modern design practices — how to create layouts that look clean, work well on all devices, and match the client’s brand perfectly.

I started paying more attention to details like spacing, typography, color balance, and visual flow. These small details make a huge difference in how a website feels and performs. I also got better at creating responsive designs, making sure that every page looks perfect whether it’s on a desktop, tablet, or mobile phone.

Another big area of growth for me was learning about user experience (UX). I began to think about how users interact with a website — what catches their attention, what keeps them engaged, and what helps them navigate easily. This shift in perspective helped me design with purpose, not just aesthetics.

Key Projects I Worked On

During the internship, I worked on several interesting projects for different Pearl Lemon brands and clients. Each one helped me learn something new and improve my design approach.

Pearl Lemon Café – I redesigned the About Us page to make it more modern, visually appealing, and aligned with the brand. The goal was to give the page a welcoming and professional look that reflected the café’s identity.

Pearl Lemon Pets – I helped design and update multiple service pages, focusing on layout consistency, content spacing, and readability. Each page had to maintain a clear flow and a friendly design that matched the company’s tone.

These projects taught me how to plan layouts carefully, maintain brand consistency, and make design choices that serve both the user and the business. I also learned how to analyze existing pages, identify weak areas, and make small but meaningful design improvements.

My Design Process

Throughout the internship, I developed a personal design workflow that helped me stay organized and work more efficiently.

Research: Before starting any project, I spent time understanding the brand’s goals, audience, and visual identity.

Wireframing: I created simple wireframes to map out how the page should be structured before adding design elements.

Design Implementation: Once the layout was approved, I worked on fonts, colors, spacing, and other details to make the page visually strong and easy to navigate.

Testing and Review: After completing the design, I tested it on different devices to make sure everything looked right and functioned smoothly. I also reviewed feedback from the team and made revisions as needed.

Following this process helped me stay consistent and deliver better results each time.

Team Collaboration and Communication

One of the best things about working at Pearl Lemon was being part of a professional, supportive team. Communication was a big part of the job — I regularly discussed progress, shared updates, and asked for feedback.

We used Slack for quick communication and Trello to track tasks and deadlines. This setup helped me stay organized and understand how design projects are managed in a real agency environment.

Getting feedback from experienced designers was extremely helpful. It pushed me to think more critically about my work and improve areas like alignment, consistency, and flow. I also learned to handle revisions positively — instead of seeing them as mistakes, I treated them as opportunities to grow and refine my work.

Skills and Professional Growth

By the end of the internship, I noticed huge improvements in my technical and professional skills. Some key areas where I grew include:

Visual balance and composition

Responsive web design

Attention to detail

UI/UX design awareness

Task management and prioritization

Clear and confident communication

I learned that being a good designer isn’t just about creativity — it’s also about understanding the purpose behind every design decision and being able to explain it clearly.

Challenges and Lessons Learned

Like any professional experience, this internship came with challenges. Managing multiple projects at once taught me how to prioritize my work and stay focused under pressure. I learned how to organize tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain quality even when things got busy.

Each project had different requirements, which forced me to adapt quickly. This helped me become more flexible and open to new ideas. I also learned how important communication is — asking questions early on saves time and prevents confusion later.

These lessons have made me more confident in handling real-world design challenges.

Reflection and Takeaway

Looking back, I can say this internship has been a major step forward in my career. I joined Pearl Lemon eager to learn and left with a much deeper understanding of web design, teamwork, and professional growth.

What I appreciated most was the balance between guidance and independence. I had the freedom to explore creative ideas while also receiving valuable feedback from experienced mentors. That combination allowed me to grow faster and develop my own design style.

This experience also helped me confirm that web design and front-end development are areas I truly enjoy. I now have a clearer direction for my career and a stronger motivation to keep improving my skills.

Final Thoughts

My time at Pearl Lemon has been full of creativity, learning, and growth. Each project challenged me in different ways and helped me become a more thoughtful and skilled designer. I’m thankful for the guidance, trust, and opportunities I received during this internship.

I’ve learned that great design isn’t just about how something looks — it’s about how it works, feels, and connects with people. This internship taught me how to combine creativity with purpose, and I’m excited to carry those lessons forward into my future projects.

Being part of Pearl Lemon’s team has truly been a rewarding experience, and I’m grateful for everything I’ve learned along the way.
